The PlayStation 2 came out in Japan on 4 March 2000, in North America on 26 October 2000 and in Europe on 24 November 2000. Sony kept making it until the last Japanese shipments on 28 December 2012, and announced the end on 4 January 2013.
In February 2024 Sony’s Jim Ryan confirmed the final count: over 160 million consoles. No other home console has sold more.
